Welcome to Tarangire Simba Lodge, Tarangire National Park is a gem on the northern safari circuit. Teeming with wildlife, especially in the dry season, this area is a safari-goers dream. Located near the new Sangaiwe Gate of Tarangire National Park. Tarangire Simba Lodge is situated in a wildlife-rich area with unhampered views to beautiful Lake Burunge, bordered by the park and a Wildlife Management Area. The setting is stunning; with a giant old Baobab tree anchoring one corner and a permeating feeling of real Africa.
The lodge opened in mid 2015 (July) and has 24 classic tents under thatch. Resident wildlife includes lion, zebra, bushbuck, impala, porcupine, monkeys, warthog, mongoose and more. Elephant, buffalo, ostrich and giraffe frequently pass through while the bird life is prolific and vibrant.
Areas surrounding national parks are critical for conservation. The location of Tarangire Simba Lodge creates a buffer between the park and the nearby village areas, which, although currently sparse in population, are under cultivation and could be subject to human/wildlife conflict. We work closely with the rangers at the nearby station to ensure that the wildlife is not compromised.
During the dry season groups of elephant, giraffe, waterbuck, zebra and more come to a small waterhole located in front of the lodge. Lucky guests can watch wildlife right from their rooms or the elevated viewing platform near the pool.
Guests are able to enter, exit and re-enter from the Sangaiwe gate of Tarangire National Park with ease.
“The rooms are fantastic – and huge! Really impeccable, with very well thought out details like the international adaptors and flashlights.”
“This lodge is as good as it looks on the pictures… What you don’t see is the kindness of the people and the views are even more impressive than they look on the pictures. Tarangire is one of the most beautiful NP’s of Tanzania and a night at Simba Lodge makes it all complete.”
“They knew we were on our honeymoon and put us in the most private tent. The “tent” is very large with a deck and large bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower. We had 2 great dinners and great breakfast and lunch. All of the staff were super friendly and very accommodating. The pool was also very refreshing after a day out driving.”
“The staff was great at pulling together the impromptu box lunch, the best we had on our ten day trip.”
Please Take Note: Our lodge is not suitable for guests with ambulatory issues or in wheelchairs; there is no wheelchair access. Children over age six are most welcome at the lodge and must be under parent’s supervision at all times. Children under the age of thirteen must share a room with an adult (17 or older).
Accommodation at Tarangire Simba Lodge is in sixteen classic canvas safari tents situated permanently under thatch. The spacious tents are constructed on platforms complete with wooden floors, large en-suite dressing room, toilet and shower. There are twin and queen tents; triples are possible. There is also a family tent with two queen-sized beds. Additionally there is an outdoor shower and each tent has a private veranda with views to the bush and Lake Burunge. Furnishings are handcrafted from African hardwood complimented with tastefully selected fabrics; electricity and hot water are solar powered. Full amenities are provided.
If you’re lucky you may see wildlife right from your room or verandah!
Each room has a torch (flashlight) and umbrella for you to use during your stay with us and there is a power strip to charge your devices.
There’s a secure safe for your valuables.
As the solar lighting may be dimmer than you’re used to, we highly recommend you bring a headlamp or ‘book light’ for reading in bed at night.
Due to our solar electrical system it’s not possible to use a hair dryer at Tarangire Simba. We kindly request that you don’t attempt to plug in a hair dryer as in all likelihood it will blow the system resulting in loss of power to the entire lodge.
We can only accommodate CPAP (sleep apnea machines) if they run on battery power, as we don’t have 24-hour electricity. You must be fully versed in how the machine works and able to assist the lodge staff in charging the battery. Please advise when booking if you use this device.
As at all our lodges, continental food is served, using the finest local ingredients available with an emphasis on healthy food including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Fresh bread is baked daily.
At breakfast coffee, tea, hot chocolate and herbal teas, cereals, a selection of fruits and muffins or pancakes are on the buffet. Oatmeal, toast, eggs, bacon and sausage are cooked to order. We provide butter, honey, jam, marmalade and peanut butter on the table. We’ve tried hard to develop a lunch box that’s different from the rest.
Lunch at the lodge is a selection of quiche, pizza and salads, spaghetti or curry and rice.
Dinner is a four course buffet― soup (always vegetarian) with bread or rolls, salad, two main courses plus rice and/or potatoes and fresh steamed vegetables. Our main courses alternate between fish, beef, pork, lamb and chicken dishes. We can cater to special diets such as gluten free, vegetarians and vegans with prior notice and substitute non-animal protein dishes at every meal such as lentils, nut roast, beans or cheese.
We avoid fatty, oily and fried foods. At tea-time (3:30 – 6:00 pm) there is tea (normal and herbal) coffee, hot chocolate and cake or cookies.
The common area of the lodge includes a dedicated reception area and separate lounge and dining room—all constructed out of canvas on raised platforms—created with relaxation and enjoyment in mind. Common areas are connected with wooden walkways and there is a deck for outdoor dining adjacent to the dining tent. Wi-Fi is available in the common area at no charge. In addition to a large swimming pool there is a ‘tree-top’ viewing platform built in a stately acacia tree to facilitate wildlife watching and star gazing.
Service is our main focus. On arrival guests receive a warm welcome from the lodge staff, a refreshing drink and a towel to rinse away the journey’s dust. Afternoon tea is on hand from 3:30 pm and there is a fully stocked bar with wine list featuring South African wines.

The most beautiful place and location to stay om the planet
This was the second lodge we stayed. Our lodge was situated at a vantage point backing off on to the dense jungle and farm land with undisturbed views. The management and staff were most welcoming and made us feel at home from the point we arrived. It was always service with a small and the staff would go out of their way to meet all our demands, Including dietary.
A Great Stay
We stayed at Karatu Simba Lodge for two nights of our week honeymoon Safari trip, once on the second night, and once on the fifth night. The staff at the Karatu Simba Lodge are so lovely and friendly, the rooms were great, spotlessly clean with beautiful views. We were given the Lion lodge on both of our stays; it was appreciated to have the same room in such a great spot. We arrived to beautiful flowers on the bed spelling out ‘Happy Honeymoon’ ....
We love this place
Our tour Operator booked this lodge for safari tours at the Ngorongoro Crater. The lodge is located in the middle of a breathtaking landscape. We received a very warm welcome. All the staff are very friendly and the food was plentiful and very tasty. We were provided with extensive and delicious packed lunches for our excursions. Good WiFi available without complicated registration. We will always remember the very friendly staff, the unique location...
A very pleasant experience
The hotel is next to the jungle and a village. If you are lucky, at night it is possible to hear the noises of the bats that live in the jungle trees. The staff is friendly. At the reception there is a common tip box, so you don't have to give a tip to each individual worker. The food was good, there were several dishes to choose from.
The rooms were nice, clean and the view, especially from the front row, was impressive. The staff was very nice.
